Development of an Arabic English microcomputer construction detailed estimating software

Abstract

Construction detailed cost estimating is the process whereby the contractor arrives at an expenditure of resources necessary to complete a construction project in accordance with the plans and specifications This paper presents an approach in utilizing two commercially available sofiwares Dbase IV and nafitha for developing a prototype Arabic English computeraided detailed estimating system ArabEST on IBM PCs and compatibles The system provides the following functions (1) allows the user to store update retrieve and access cost databases independent of their uses ; (2) allows the user to retrieve the required data in the estimating process automatically ; (3) performs the required calculations to produce cost estimate ; (4) allows the user to importexport data from external databases ; (5) prints the estimating output through English or Arabic forms ; and (6) allows the user to analyze the estimate (whatif analysis for example) Since it is merely a computerization of the manual estimating process ArabEST's users need not learn new estimating techniques ArabEST's functions are accessed through a menudriven system with immediate feedback Therefore its users need only to know some basic PC operating principles

تؤدي عملية التقدير للمشاريع إلى ضرورة معرفة المقاول للنفقات والإمكانات المطلوبة من نحو مواد وعمال ومعدات مطلوبة لإكمال المشروع الإنشائي كما هو مطلوب في المخططات والمواصفات وهذه الورقة توضح استخدام برنامجين رياضيين هما (برنامج Dbase IV وبرنامج النافذة) في سبيل تطوير نموذج أولي لبرنامج حساب تكاليف المشاريع التفصيلية ArabEST على الحاسب الآلي الشخصي (الحاسوب) من نوع آي آي إم ومثيلاته، باستخدام اللغتين العربية والإنجليزية إن برنامج ArabEST يسمح للمستخدم بالتالي (1) تخزين وتغيير واستخراج وإضافة معلومات لقواعد معلومات التكلفة، (2) استخراج معلومات قواعد المعلومات أثناء قيامه بعملية حسابات التكلفة، (3) القيام بعمليات الحسابات أثناء قيامه بعملية حسابات التكلفة، (4) إدخال وإخراج معلومات لقواعد بيانات خارجية، (5) طباعة تقارير التكلفة بالعربية والإنجليزية، (6) تحليل التكلفة عن طريق استخدام طريقة (ماذالو) على سبيل المثال وبما أن البرنامج ما هو إلا عملية مكننة على الحاسوب للطريقة اليدوية المستخدمة حاليا لحسابات تكلفة المشاريع، فإن المستخدم لا يحتاج إلى معرفة طرق جديدة لحسابات التكلفة وأخيرا فإن عمليات برنامج ArabEST يمكن استخدامها عن طريق القوائم الاختيارية مما يجعل المستخدم لا يحتاج إلى معرفة أكثر من بعض الأساسيات البسيطة لجهاز الحاسوب
