A designer's notes on the environmental approach to residential design for hotarid zones

Abstract

The great diversity of the different regions of the world is due to the fact that each place and each society exhibits unique characteristics Man in his everyday life constantly responds to social experiences as well as to buildings landscapes etc We can say that any good building design should relate not only to the traditional way of life of its users but also to the climate and other environmental conditions in its area Though obvious this is all too often ignored Contemporary buildingcommercial or residentiallooks much the same the world over because it has been designed mainly to keep the natural phenomena outside to separate conditions indoors from the outdoors as much as possible relying mainly on mechanical means Design ideas in architecture cannot simply be exported like standard consumer products It is necessary to appreciate and understand the unique situation of the area concerned and to have a deep insight into climate environment materials and local technology This paper discusses climatic elements affecting human comfort and design of buildings for hotarid regions and presents applicable design criteria The intent here is to establish basic ground rules for environmental design It is specially meant for designers with the hope that the discussion and the visuals may be used as a tool to initiate design concepts and refine design solutions

لكل بيئة خصائص تميزها عن البيئات الأخرى سواء من الناحية الاجتماعية أو المناخية أو أشكال الحضارة والإنسان دائم التفاعل مع البيئة في جوانبها المتعددة والمباني جزء من هذه البيئة وعلية فإن التصميم الجيد للبناء يجب أن يراعي هذه الأمور من نحو العادات والتقاليد والمناخ وأحوال الطقس ورغم بداهة هذه الحقائق إلا أن بعض مصممي المباني يتجاهلونها مع الأسف والملاحظ في مباني العصر الحديثسواء التجارية منها أو السكنيةالتشابه إلى درجة التطابق وقد أدى ذلك إلى فصل البيئة الخارجية عن البيئة الداخلية المكيفة بقدر الإمكان وذلك بالاعتماد على الوسائل التقنية الحديثة لتقوم بمعظم الوظائف من تبريد وإضاءة وغيره إن الأفكار المعمارية لا يمكن تصديرها كتصدير البضائع التجارية، ومن الضروري تقييم وفهم كل حالة على حدة كحالة فريدة حسب وضعها وأهميتها، ويجب أن ندرس بعمق ظروف الطقس والبيئة ومواد البناء و التقنية المحلية وهذه الدراسة تناقش العناصر المناخية التي لها تأثير على راحة الإنسان وعلاقته بتصميم المباني للمناطق الحارة الجافة وتحاول أن تقدم معايير لتطبيقها في التصميم وتهدف إلى الوصول إلى قواعد أساسية في التصميم بالتوافق مع البيئة لدى المعماريين والمصممين على أمل أن تكون المناقشة والوسائل التعليمية البصرية قد استخدمت كأداة لبداية أفكار ابتكارية في التصميم وكذلك لتهذيب الحلول المعمارية الأخرى
