Kinetic evidence for rydbergrydgerg collisions in the laser ionization sodium atoms at intermediate vapor densities

Abstract

Sodium vapor in thermal equilibrium with the corresponding condensed phase between 300 and 525 K was irradiated with light from dye lasers Sodium atoms excited to Rydberg states (eg 1Od) by this process were observed to ionize spontaneously and or emit UV photons The results from each laser shot were plotted graphically with the integrated yield of ionized electrons as the ordinate and the integrated yield of emitted photons as the abscissa A theoretical curve was derived on the assumption that the ratedetermining step in the ionization mechanism was the collision of two rydberg atoms This curve fitted the plotted points remarkably well although the goodness of fit was relatively insensitive to some of the key experimental parameters The cross sections obtained for this collisional ionization process are not reliable because the authors were not able to measure these parameters with the required accuracy

لوحظ عند إثارة بخار الصوديم المتوازن حراريا مع الحالة المكثفة بين درجتي 300، 525 كيلفن بواسطة ليزر الأصباغ أن ذرات عنصر الصوديوم المثارة لدرجة ردبيرغ بهذه الطريقة تتأين فورا مطلقة فوتونات فوق البنفسجية ثم يسمح النتائج الحاصلة من كل طلة ليزر مع الناتج المتكامل للإلكترونات المتأينة على الإحداث الرأسي والناتج المتكامل للفوتونات المنبعثة على الإحداث الأفقي ثم اشتق منحنى نظري على افتراض أن الخطوة المتحكمة بالسرعة في عملية التأين هي التصادم بين ذرتين في حالة ردبيرغ ووجد أن هذا المنحنى ينطبق بصورة مقبولة مع المنحنى العملي إلا أن درجة المطابقة بالنسبة لبعض المعايير العملية لم تكن بالدقة المطلوبة نسبيا وللأسف لم نتمكن من قياس هذه المعايير بالدقة اللازمة لحساب المقطع العرضي للتصادم المؤدي لعملية التأين
