The results of testing a variety of cleanup techniques in salt marshes affected by
the 1991 Gulf Oil Spill are presented in this paper The results are evaluated as to
cleanup effectiveness and their influence on environmental recovery
Flooding is identified as an effective cleanup technique for recovering stranded oil ; however this cleanup method may contribute to the continued decline of viable aboveground plant biomass Removal of the oil soaked algal mat may prove to be an effective method of remediation تستعرض هذه الورقة نتائج الاختبارات التي أجريت على مجموعة من وسائل التنظيف المختلفة للمستنقعات المالحة التي تأثرت بتلوث الزيت في عام 1991 وكان الهدف تقييم النتائج من أجل تصنيف فعالية التنظيف وتأثيرها على الإصلاح البيئي وقد أثبتت الدراسة أن أفضل الوسائل تعتمد على تغريق المستنقعات بماء البحر وذلك لاستخلاص الزيت العالق في هذه المستنقعات ؛ إلا أن هذه الوسيلة قد تسبب تراجعا في كثافة أجزاء النباتات الظاهرة فوق الأرض وقد تبين أيضا بنتيجة هذه التجارب أن كشط الحصر الطحلبية المتشربة للزيت والتي تغطي قاع المستنقعات قد تكون وسيلة جيدة في عمليات الاستصلاح البيئي
