Abstract

Urban structure in Gaza Strip in general and in GaL1 city in particular has been influenced by its location on the Mediterranean Sea coastal zone This involves the road network and the nature of the landuse of the different functional zones in the city The paper high lights the influence of the sea on the urban growth of the city in the different stages of its urban development throughout the history The urban development of the city has faced many challenges that adversely affected its urban structure The paper will analyze the current urban structure of the city and will illustrate the effect of the coastal line on the road system and neighborhoods constituting the city The study reveals the impact of the sea on changing the urban pattern growth of the city landuse from concentric zones into parallel sectors It is aimed that the study will result in a deeper understanding of the factors contributed in developing the city urban configuration This will help to correctly inform the further urbanization process of the city and the development of its urban structure in a way that takes into consideration the location of the city as a coastal area This will lead to a better understanding of the sea impact as one of the main aspects which influence the growth of the city since the study concluded that there is a clear impact of the sea on the city urban structure
