درست الصفات المظهرية والعددية لهجين اصطناعي ناتج من تهجين ذكور أسماك البني Barbus sharpeyi (Günther 1874) مع إناث أسماك الكطان Barbus xanthopterus (Heckel 1843)، أجريت عملية التهجين في مفقس أسماك مركز علوم البحار جامعة البصرة أثناء شهر نيسان 2009 م تميز الهجين ببعض الصفات المتوسطة بين النوعين، وهي حجم الحراشف، وشكل شوكة الزعنقة الظهرية، وعدد الحراشف على الخط الجانبي، وفوق الخط الجانبي، ونسب عمق الرأس، وطول الزعانف الظهرية والشرجية، إذ تعد هذه الصفات المظهرية مهمة لتمييز الهجين عن الآباء (البني والكطان)، وفي حين كانت هناك بعض الصفات المتداخلة مع الآباء، وكانت الصفات المتداخلة بين الهجين وذكور الآباء (البني) أكثر مما هي عليه مع إناث الآباء (الكطان) Morphometric and meristic characteristics of hybrid from a cross breeding between Barbus sharpeyi female and Barbus xanthopterus male were described The hybrid were intermediate between the two species for size of scales shape of dorsal fine spine count of scales on lateral line count of scale above lateral line and ratios of head depth length of dorsal fine and length of anal fine On the other hand the important characters of the hybrid have tendency to be like B sharpeyi rather than B xanthopterus u
