Résumé: Galangal (alpinia officinarum) is the rhizome of zingiberaceae family It grows in south China and south east of Asia Ginger (zingiber officinale) belong to the rhizomes of zingiberaceae family It grows in Hawaii island florida South California and New Mexico In order to study the therapeutic effects of these rhizomes on liver cancer aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) 01 ml 100 gm Was administered intraperitoneal in male wister albino rats for a period of 10 days to induce liver cancer Galangal and ginger were given separate as water as Aseparate aminotransferase (AST) alanine aminotransferase (ALT) gammaglutamyl transferase (GGT) and other nonenzymatic biochemical parameters including bilirubin urea uric acid creatinine cholesterol triacylglycerols glucose and hemoglobin Part of the liver samples were taken to determine the content of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) ribonucleic acid (RNA) and total proteins the other part was used for hisological examination The results of this study demonstrated that galangal extract prevented the proliferation of liver cancer at the initiative stage by inhibiting AFB1 effects on DNA and regeneration of helpatocyte cells ginger was also found to be active but less potent
