الملخص: Objectives To evaluate effect of gamma radiation on the liver and the prophylactic and or therapeutic rote of anserine nitrate and or zinc chloride against gamma radiationinduced hepatotoxieity Animals 96 male albino rats were divided in to live main groups The first group “Normal Control Group” served as untreated normal control healthy group The second group “Control treated group” subdivided in to three subgroups to determine the effects of anserine nitrate (04 mg Kg body weight) and or Zinc (10 mg Kg body weight) on normal healthy rats The third group ‘Control Irradiated Group’ subdivided into two subgroups to determine the effect of whole body gamma irradiation delivered from 60Cobalt gamma cell 3500 at dose level (53 Gy) at a dose rate 267 rad sec at different lime intervals ie 24 hrs and 14 days postradiation exposure The fourth group “PreTreated Irradiated group” subdivided into three subgroups to evaluate the protective effect of anserine andor zinc against gamma radiationinduced hepatotoxicity The fifth group “PostTreated Irradiated Group” subdivided into three subgroups to evaluate the curative effect of anserine andor zinc against gamma radiationinduced hepalotoxicity Animals were fasted 24 hrs before scarifying liver tissue and blood samples were collected at time intervals 24 his and 14 days post radiation exposure Main outcome measures Liver contents of (ALP) (ALT) (AST) glucose total proteins albumin total direct and indirect bilirubin total lipids triglycerides cholesterol (LDLC) (HDLC) and fractions of serum albumin a2Macroglogulin Galactosidase Phosphorylase b Fumarase Carbonic anhydrase Lactog) obulin aL actalbumin Aprotinin were measured prior and after whole body gamma irradiation Results Exposure to gamma irradiation induced a significant increase in levels of ALP ALT and AST while levels of glucose total proteins albumin lipid profile including triglycerides cholesterol LDLC HDLC total direct and indirect biliruhin and fractions of serum albumin a 2Macroglogulin Galactosidase Phosphorylase h Fumarase Carbonic anhydrase Lactoglohulin aLactalbumin Aprotinin were significantly decreased except for total lipids level which was almost not affected Administration of anserine andor zinc prior or after radiation exposure promoted improvement of the most parameters measured Conclusion Anserine a naturally histidine dipeptide has a remarkable radio and hepatoprotective effect against gamma radiationinduced hepatotoxicity pre and post radiation exposure and may be other types of hepatotoxicities Also zinc has proved to have a synergistic effect along with anserine and this confirm its hepatoprotective and antioxidant effect
